The tannery built on this site in 1908 was one of our community's oldest industries. Leather was a popular commodity, not only for the use of everyday living but also for several industrial applications. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the tannery in 1911, during a period when it was undergoing a large expansion to add on a shoe factory. The tannery was never replaced.
