The Bailey Theatre Society presents:

Songbook Sunday

Songbook Sunday Welcomes Musicians and Music Lovers

Songbook Sunday started a year and a half ago when local musicians, Leslie Lindballe and Jordan Leden, wanted to start an all-ages acoustic space for musicians and music lovers to come together. Inspired by the campfire song circles of the Alberta folk music scene, the duo made song books full of well-loved songs and invited players of all ages and all abilities to come together.

They were blown away by the response! "People have come from all over!" boasts Lindballe. "There's a group from Vegreville that comes, a family from Leduc and Sherwood Park, and regulars from all across the county. There was even a woman who saw Songbook Sunday in the Camrose Morning News while she was visiting her family from Kentucky. She came and sat in the back and played her guitar."

The nature of the gathering is to make music as accessible and comfortable as possible. Participants play together for the first hour, either in a circle or sitting wherever they feel most comfortable. Players bring along upright basses, fiddles, banjos, guitars, and ukuleles, and the hosts bring a handful of small instruments for those who would like to play but don't have their own instrument yet. After warming up together, individuals are invited to take the beautiful Bailey stage for an open mic style performance.

Lindballe says, "the Bailey stage is really second to none. The sound system is amazing and there's nothing like the experience of hearing yourself through the hands of such talented sound technicians. You really feel like you're a star."

Songbook Sunday is the second Sunday of every month at 2 pm. The admission is free and donations are encouraged to help offset the costs of putting on the show.

If you would like to sponsor Songbook Sunday, please get in touch with Leslie Lindballe at onepercentyellow@gmail.com or through the Bailey box office.

Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 PM

Admission is FREE!

Back by popular demand! Songbook Sunday returns in November! A chance to get together with other wonderful players for an acoustic jam followed by some time on the amazing Bailey stage. Play along, sit enjoy a beer, bring your knitting! All ages, all are welcome.
